3rd Dokdo History Essay Competition Winner – English Div. High School : 3rd Place Namratha Sajeev
Hi, my name is Namratha and I’m going to be a junior at Nashua High School North this fall. In the future I want to study at medical school and become either a pediatrician or a surgeon! I volunteer at St. Joseph’s Medical Center as well as Pennichuck Middle School.
While researching for my essay, I learnt much about the island of Dokdo as well as the dispute between South Korea and Japan over its true owner. I had never before heard of the island, or the claims by South Korea and Japan over its ownership, but as soon as I started learning more, I was fascinated by its rich history and intricate past. The essay competition offered a window into a part of the world I had never seen, and as I looked deeper into the the dispute and the arguments made by both countries, I could fully comprehend the sentimental value, and monetary benefits, among other things pertinent to Dokdo. I plan to keep myself updated with any news about Dokdo, and I remain hopeful that it will, one day, be known to everyone all over the globe who its true and rightful owner has been, since the beginning: South Korea.
Thank you to KCHEFNE for this wonderful opportunity.
