3rd Dokdo History Essay Competition Winner-English Div. Middle School : 2nd Place Nathan Yeung

My name is Nathan Yeung and I am an 8th grader attending the Academy for Science and Design. Currently, I play tennis and basketball competitively for the city and I am involved in many extracurricular activities such as South’s debate team and Technology Student Association. Even though I am of Chinese descent, I find Korean history and culture very interesting, which is why I decided to compete in this essay competition.
When writing my essay, not only did I learn about the island of Dokdo, but I also learned about the deep history between South Korea and Japan. I learned many aspects about the history of South Korea and the horrid things Japan did to the people of South Korea. I want my essay to convey to the public that Dokdo is rightfully part of Korea’s territory ever since the beginning of time. There is no need for a debate about this topic as history already explains it. Writing and learning about Dokdo’s harsh past was more of an adventure to me, rather than a difficult task. I am elated to be awarded for my efforts and would like to thank everyone that is supporting Dokdo to be part of South Korea’s territory.
